Product Focus - New Solid Blue Letter Carrier Shirts
You may notice that the new shirts lack the traditional red and navy pinstripes. The new fabric is a
solid powder blue and includes the same emblem. The cut of the shirts is the same. The fabric remains
a 65% polyester / 35% cotton, but is now a poplin weave as opposed to broadcloth. Poplin weaves are a
little smoother in appearance and touch. The shirts are still machine washable, but now have the
addition of soil release which provides increased protection and ease of care against stains and
soiling.
The shirts were changed because the last remaining mill in the US that made the fabric has shut down.
Instead of having the fabric made offshore, the USPS (along with the unions, manufacturers and
retailers) decided to switch to a fabric that is made in the USA. If you prefer the old striped shirts,
the uniform policy will allow you to continue wearing them indefinitely. Some vendors still have limited
quantities in stock.
